Togo is a beautiful strip of land wedged between Benin and Ghana on the coast of the Bight of Benin.  Burkina Faso also shares the  boundary with Togo . Togo  been under military rule from 1967  till multi party elections  were  introduced in 1990.   Togolese President is the longest - ruling Head of State in Africa.  A multi party draft constitution was adopted following a referendum  in 1992.

Togo has a short coastal line of about 50 km   with a thick growth of tall palm trees and a series of small lakes and lagoons.  The land extends northward in slow gradient planes  towards  the  center where there  is a range of small  hills.  River Oti flows from these hills to the south west to Lake Volta.   To the north of the river is grassy land- savannah region. 

Togo is one major attraction for the tourists in west Africa.  The capital Lome and the villages attract a lot of travelers. Togo has a population of 2.9 million.  About 6% of the adult population is HIV positive.
