 CLIMATE 

Over 40% of the country is desert – the Sharan zone.   When you pass from the semi arid region to arid Saharan region, the change clearly felt by the virtual absence of rain.  Southern area, the cultivable land mass called  the Sudanese zone gets 55 inches of rain annually.  Towards the Sahelian region, the semi arid north, it drops down to 8 inches per annum. 

Mid june to November , it is humid and rainy in the southern area and November to January period is extremely hot ; heat increasing gradually to the  northern part and in Saheli region, the semi arid area also gets hot  due to dry harmattan wind blowing from Sahara desert.  The average temperature in Sudanese region is 300  c
