ECONOMY
More than 60% of the land area in
Mali is in Saheli and Sahara region ie. desert or semidesert. This
area is not culltivable. In the remaining
area irrigated by the river Niger is used for farming in which 80% of
the people are engaged. 10% of the people
are nomadic and engaged in livestock development. Industrial activity
is mainly for processinf farm commodities. Mali’s main export is Cotton and any
fluctuation in the world market prices of cotton affect the over all
economy directly.
Since 1997, Mali is strictly adhering to the implementation of economic reforms as
per the recommendations of IMF and there is positive improvement in the
economy. Mali government is paying
considerable attention to the growth ,diversification and
liberalization of the economy attracting foreign direct investment.
