Guinea – Bissau is one of
the poorest countries of the world. The
country has minerals such as Bauxite and phosphates and known reserves
of petroleum.
82% of the
people are employed in agricultural sector. Cashew is the main crop and Guinea – Bissau
ranks 6th in cashew production in the world.
What the
country needs most is peace. The civil war has done that much damage to the national
economy. Off shore oil reserves may be
able to bring in much needed funds once peace returns to the country
wins the confidence from foreign financial
institutions and aid donor nations.
Contentious Issues
