MONEY
The official Currency of
Cape Verde is Cape Verde Escudo (CVE) = 100 centavos.

The banks of the main
towns provide money exchange and traveller’s cheques. These
cheques are best accepted in US Dollars. It is easier to exchange cash
in Pounds Sterling or US dollars. Currencies, however, cannot be
re-converted. Credit cards are not accepted in many places, though
there are some hotels that accept them.

TRANSPORT & GETTING AROUND
By Air:
Air is the best way to
commute to and fro Cape Verde. Regular flights are available from
Lisbon and there are other from other European centres, which are,
however, less frequent.
Domestic Flights

TACV – Cabo Verde Airlines
This is the chief
domestic carrier with a network of costly international flights between
the islands. Minimum of one flight between Praia, Mindelo and Sal are
available everyday. Private Charters are also provided from the Cape
Verde Express Air-taxi service.
By Bus:
Travelling around the
islands is best done through buses and trucks; Taxis are more expensive
and are not available in large numbers and not evenly scattered around.
By Road:
There are Maps and
Atlases available on Sale. Also, the people can avail of the rental
cars at Sao Tiago, Fogo, Sao Vicente and Sal. Righ-handed driving is
prevalent here and you need an International Driving license.

Power
The Electricity is of
power 220V and runs at 50 Hz. The “Round pin attachment plug”
and the “ ‘Schuko’ plug and receptacle with side grounding contacts
“ are used.
TRAVEL
INSURANCE
Note: Payments via insurance
companies are not acceptable by the medical providers of Cape Verde.
You are required to pay the complete amount following your treatment
and then file a claim with the insurance company asking for
compensation. Thus, it is better to have easy access to cash in this
place wither though a Credit Card or by wire transfer. For any help,
contact the country’s local embassy or representative.
In order to be applicable
for reimbursement, make sure you are treated by a licensed
medical personnel and also, you are required to submit proper
documentation and receipts to the insurance company.
It is advised that you
make sure you have a comprehensive travel insurance policy
covering you for repatriation to your home country.
