ATTRACTIONS
For the
history lovers, there is plenty to see in the Ethnography
Museum in the Capital City Ouagadougou, which
houses an interesting collection of Mossi artefacts. The National
Museum in the Lycée Bogodogo and the Snake Museum in
the Collège de la Salle are also worth visiting. Tourists can seek
information at the tourist office in the town. Outside the Moro-Naba
Palace every Friday morning around 6 am, one can watch the
interesting Moro-Naba ceremony, with traditional
costumes and drums
Attractions
in the vicinity of Ouagadougou include a small artificial
lake 18km (11 miles) to the north where one can see some wildlife.
Other places of interest for the animal lovers include, Sabou,
where crocodiles can be seen at close quarters. Then the three national
parks – at Kabore Tembi, at ‘W’ near
the Benin and Niger border, and at Arli, the Ranch de Nazinga, South of Ougadougou, near Po,
is a game reserve with a large population of elephants, antelopes,
monkeys, baboons and warthogs. The ancient Mossi village, Pabre at a short distance from
another large reservoir north of the city is another sightseeing
destination
For a perspective of busy markets and
streetlife, the Grand Marché in
Bobo Dioulasso, the largest town inhabited
by the Bobo people in Burkina Faso is the ideal place. At the Musée Provincial du Houët and the Grande Mosquée in the Kibidwé district,
one can find regional relics, arts and crafts. Trips to the outskirts
of the city include the picturesque sacred fish pond of La
Mare aux Poissons Sacrés de Dafra, 8km (5 miles) southeast of the
city; the fantastic bathing pond of La Guinguette,
located in La Fôret de Kou, 18km (11 miles) from the
city; and the Mare aux Hippopotames, 66km
(41 miles) northeast of the city where hippos can be viewd from the
pirogue for a small price.
Nature lovers
can enjoy the majestic Karfiguéla
Waterfalls, 12km (3 miles) northwest of the town, can be viewed
from the town of Banfora, Southwest of Bobo Dioulasso.
the extraordinary Sindou Rock Formations can
be seen from the town of Sindoua about 50km (31
miles) west of Banfora.
