Climate
ranges from Equatorial hot and humid in the west
towards south of Savalou which also has a long dry
season from December to March when the Harmattan blows from the
North-East to the South-West, to torrential rains from
March and July. Once again from July to September the climate is dry
followed by a wet season till November. Rainfall too
varies from place to place. Longer dry seasons and low average rainfall
is the norm in the Southwest, like in Grand Pope, it is about 32.4
inches while in the East and North, the rainfall is about 40 inches.
The climate is tropical in the North and has one wet season from May to
September, rains being concentrated in August and a
dry season when the Harmattan blows for a couple of months. Midday
temperatures are the highest in January and lowest in August; however
daily midday and night temperatures are at extremes upto 15.5C (28F) in
the hot season. The highest rainfall is recorded at Central Benin,
about 35 inches, it is high in the North- 40 inches. It would be ideal
to visit Southern Benin during December
to March and July-August and the North is pleasant
during December – April.
