CLIMATE



 Climate ranges from Equatorial hot and humid in the west towards south of Savalou which also has a long dry season from December to March when the Harmattan blows from the North-East to the South-West, to torrential rains from March and July. Once again from July to September the climate is dry followed by a wet season till November. Rainfall too varies from place to place. Longer dry seasons and low average rainfall is the norm in the Southwest, like in Grand Pope, it is about 32.4 inches while in the East and North, the rainfall is about 40 inches. The climate is tropical in the North and has one wet season from May to September, rains being concentrated in August and  a dry season when the Harmattan blows for a couple of months. Midday temperatures are the highest in January and lowest in August; however daily midday and night temperatures are at extremes upto 15.5C (28F) in the hot season. The highest rainfall is recorded at Central Benin, about 35 inches, it is high in the North- 40 inches. It would be ideal to visit Southern Benin during December to March and July-August and the North is pleasant during December – April.
