Economy:

Agricultural produces like maize, cassava, yam, fruits etc., are the backbone of Benin’s economy. Cotton, coffee, cocoa beans, palm oil, crude oil etc., are exported. The technical expertise is hardly utilized to its full potential and in many cases itr is abused. As a result, the productive capacity of the country suffers. Cotton export  and transit trade services have considerably increased over the years. Among other trade practices in the economy are craft and souveneir markets especially along the marina in Cotonou, the Dan Tokpa market at the Cotonou Lagoon that sells traditional medicines and artifacts. Items worth buying include masks, tapestries, statues and pottery. These items are typical of most villages and towns in the country.
